Mexican scientists already test successfully in animals a vaccine that can help to detoxification from heroin, as it makes the body less prone to pleasure effects caused by the drug.
According to the British “Guardian”, after highly successful experiments on mice, the vaccine is prepared to be tested in humans. Researchers at the National Institute of Psychiatry in Mexico indicated that the vaccine makes the body more resistant to the effects of heroin, in whatever form taken by the user.
Institute's director, Maria Elena Medina, said that the vaccine is intended "for people who have a serious addiction, who failed to any rehabilitation means and are willing to try this method to get away from drugs."
Scientists internationally have been looking for a vaccine against drug addiction for years but till now have not succeeded. A scientific team from the National Institute of Drug Abuse, USA announced, however, that a significant progress has been made with a vaccine against cocaine.
