COMMUNITY - Now: Potatoes without Intervenes; Next: Olive oil

All started when volunteers of Pieria (Greece) started ordering potatoes directly from producers, hence avoiding intervenes, with only 0.25 euros per kilo; this action was the beginning of a new ‘movement’ where whole Greece would make product transactions directly with the producer. So, what is next?

In a research made by Voluntary Action Group  of Pieria, citizens chose olive oil (at 54%) as the product in the same way as potatoes. Products such as flour (10,7%),  spaghetti (8.5%), potatoes(3,8%), onions (3,1%), lentils (2,3%) and chickpeas (1,5%) follow the list.

Tomorrow, Saturday, March 3d Katerini’s Volunteers along with three potato producers from Nevrokopi (Greece) will offer 75 tones of potatoes (!) to 1100 families! Now, more cities follow the same example; Thessaloniki, Volos, Athens, Veroia and Larissa.

•    In Volos apart from the citizens, municipalities and monasteries call to order potatoes from Nevrokopi’s potato producers!
•    Rice producers of Chalastra also offer their rice without intervenes!
•    Farmers of Serres are also preparing to offer rice and
•    Farmers of Kastoria will offer beans in such way!

It is obvious that despite the crisis, when people are united they can really find a solution and make it!
