INNOVATION - Artificial Hand for Handicapped

17-year old school student, Harris Ioannou was received the 1st place at a European Contest for new scientists, held  last September in Bratislava (Slovakia).

Mr. Harris Ioannou presenting his innovative project.

Mr. Ioannou took the 1st prize for the development of an artificial glove for handicapped.

According to Ethnos newspaper, Mr. Ioannou got inspired of this idea from his grandmother, who has kinesiology problems.

In particular, the fact that she could not even grasp the TV remote control, made him develop his idea in a year and a half, at the age of 15.

This device, weighting 350 grams, is composed of a metal structure, with pressure sensors that sense when the user wearing it, is going to make a move.

This is achieved through a system processor, located on the glove, and the use of algorithms, commanding sensors to mobilize the hand. This articifial glove can lift  17 kilos per hand clavicle!

At the moment, this development is at an initial stage, therefore not yet ready for a daily use.

According to Mr. Ioannou, “there are some bugs, but the results were encouraging."

It is worth mentioning that Mr. Harirs Ioannou received the 1st place among 123 participants from 38 countries.
