Μunicipality of Trikala (Greece) is one of the five European cities in which buses without drivers will be tested
under the CityMobil2 program.
Trikala, awarded in
2009 as one of the 'smarter' cities of
the world, competed with 11 other European cities and qualified to the five cities
that will hold the six-month trials. According to Alessandro Alessandrini, Program’s CityMobil2 coordinator, Trikala gained the highest
score and earned the
congratulations of auditors of
the European Union.
Robotic trails
The bus without driver will move on a specially formatted route of 1,200 meters along three main streets (Karaiskaki,
October 28 and March
25), at a low speed (approximately
20 km./ hour) making six
stops. The vehicle is expected to be
delivered at the end of next
summer.
The four-year program CityMobil2
(Cities demonstrating cybernetic mobility) was launched
in September 2012. In the program participate 45 European
countries, whereas from Greece also participates The National Technical University of
Athens.
