Technical University of Crete (TUC) won the 4th place in an international competition fuel economy, Shell Eco Marathon 2012, held from 14 to 19 May in Rotterdam, Holland. The aim of the competition was to achieve the lowest possible fuel consumption regardless the fuel used.
With the participation of 217 educational european institutions and 3,000 students from 23 countries, TUC Eco Racing team presented a new financial city car, which has a hydrogen fuel cell powered by an electric motor.

More specifically, TUC participated in the large category of urban vehicles (urban concepts) and presented a completely new vehicle (ER12), which reached 34 Km / KWh, that is approximately 328 Km / lt, winning the 4th place in its category.
Having the experience of 5 participations in this competition, TUC was able to create a vehicle 36kg lighter than the previous one, emphasizing in the use of materials such as carbon fiber and aluminum alloy.
Although some technical problems prevented the team from an even better performance, significant improvements of the new vehicle enabled TUC team to climb from eighth position held last year, in fourth place in the category of hydrogen powered city vehicles.
However, it is important noting thatthe team has managed to win the first prize Vehicle Safety (ADAC Safety Award) in the two previous events , making it the most successful team in Greek history.
The members of this year's TUCER group are: Tsourveloudis Nikolaos Spanoudakis Polychronis, Piperidis Savvas Tsinar Ioannis Dimitrios Efstathiou, Gen. John Tzanakis Thanos, Panayotis Bazios, Hatzidakis George, Tassos Petrou, Laskaris Argiro.
